Who inspires you?

I don’t know anyone else in real life that works with polymer and image transfers, so I am forever searching online for similar artists, pieces, and processes. I am also SO inspired and motivated by fellow PCAGOE members whose creativity and dedication sparks new ideas and motivation for me.  polly11

  What inspires you?

To make the custom pieces, I find inspiration in old photographs, albums, and old heirloom jewelry. For my own photography, I look for abstract shapes and colors, lines and movements within a piece that speak to me.

Where do you create?

I have a “craft room” but really I use it more for storage. I’ve tried to work up there but it’s hard to dedicate time away from other things and I sometimes feel isolated up there, so instead I have taken over our dining room table and do most of my work from there, listening to my ipod. I’ve been known to do finish work (paint, detail, lacquer) at the coffee table while watching a DVD.   polly7

How long have you been working with polymer clay?

I’ve worked on and off with polymer clay for the last ten years or so, but it wasn’t until the past year or two that I have started to pair it with my love of photography and my photo restorations. It’s the marriage of the two mediums that I love most right now.

Who inspires you?

I was inspired by my mother to create, she taught me how to make jewelry at the age of 5 and I have created ever since. My mom used to make the most beautiful fused glass wire wrapped pendants and back in the 70’s she also made pendants with this colored clay that she used to embed crystals in and make flowers out of. My mom has early onset Earrings2001Alzheimer’s and is unable to use her beads and make jewelry anymore so I now have her collection. While I was sorting through her beads I came across those colored clay flowers and realized they were made of Fimo. It turns out my mother had been working with polymer clay all those years ago and I didn’t discover the clay for myself until 1989.

What inspires you?

I have mostly been inspired by color and nature. When I start to work on something, I start by laying out all the different colors of clay and figure out what shades I want for my designs. I have been known to try to match colors on some of the insects and birds I see flying outside my studio window. I am also inspired by the members of PCAGOE. When I started this group back in December 2006, I wasn’t sure of what direction we would go but the members have been so supportive and generous that it is hard not to be inspired by them and all of their amazing accomplishments and generosity. I live out in the country on 5 acres and I can go days with out seeing anyone except my husband. The group has brought me so many amazing friends that I would have never met. I hope to get to meet everyone in person some day.

Where do you create?

I live in northern Florida and there is an endless source of inspiration here. I have a studio in the third bedroom of our house and I love that I can close the door when it gets messy. My nemeraldearth_jpegiece, who is 10 years old, recently moved close to us and she keeps telling me she wants to organize my studio.LOL

How long have you been working with polymer clay?

I have been working with polymer clay since 1989 when I met this girl who was set up outside my bank selling necklaces made from polymer clay. I bought a necklace and was amazed by the intricate details and I wanted to have earrings to match and she said she was actually looking for someone to help her make earrings since she didn’t like making them. I had been making jewelry since I was 5, so I offered my services. She taught me some basics of working with polymer clay and the millefiori technique and then went away to college so I just kept playing with the clay on my own and trying new things and here I am 18 years later still playing with the clay and trying new things. I recently started Polymer Clay Productions in which I do a podcast & videocast with a fellow PCAGOE member Kira Slye.We do a new show every Friday where we talk about and demonstrate different ways to work with polymer clay.
