January Challenge Winner

For this month’s challenge we had our members examine their New Year’s resolutions and make an item that some how represented one of those resolutions. As always our members were creative and innovative in their approach to this challenge and they created some wonderful entries. While all of the entries were fantastic, there was a clear winner, Elizabeth from Elizabethbonura.etsy.com and her Orchid Hair Pin.

OrchidHairpinByElizabethBonura

Here is Elizabeth’s description of her resolution and the description of her beautiful and realistic orchid hair pin:

One of my New Year’s resolutions is to let my creativity bloom - like this flower. This orchid is made from a “no bake polymer clay” which allows the petals to remain flexible! The flower is 2 1/2″ wide from petal tip to petal tip and is 3 1/4″ tall from petal tip to the end of the hairpin. The petals were painted with acrylics and then sealed for protection. ” We all look forward to seeing her creativity bloom. I can’t wait to see what she’ll come up with next!”

There was yet another tie this month. This time for 2nd place and coincidently they were both about spending more time playing and enjoying life. Humblebeads and her blue birds and Blockpartypress and her bubbles share the honor.

Blue Bird of Happiness

Here is Humblebead’s description of her resolution and her piece:
“These are a reminder to myself to spend more time playing and exploring in 2008. I guess you could say they are my little muses. I wanted to create birds that looked like folky terra cotta garden sculptures, something you’d find in a long neglected garden.”

Here is blockpartypress‘ description of her resolution:
“One of my resolutions was to play a little more and take things a little less seriously. It is great to work hard, but you should also make time to play hard. I always love the pure joy my kids feel doing a simple thing like blowing bubbles and this year I plan to capture a bit of that joy for myself!”

Third place went to Iris Mishly and her Flower Mobile Hangers which wished us all a best wishes for a great 2008!
Flower Mobile Hangers - Red

Here is her resolution: “My resolution is to wish all of us (you especially) a great 2008, may all your wishes come true, creativity and a safe, great, healthy year, Always!
Lets make this year a colorful and blooming one :) ” Thanks for the well wishes Iris and we all wish the same for you!

Our honorable mention this month went to Chickigirlcreations for her beautiful tree pendant.

Tree Pendant
Here is her description of her resolution:
“This is my entry for this month’s PCAGOE Challenge, New Year’s Resolution. I’ve always loved trees … the textures, the colors, their strength, and even the sound they make when the wind blows through their leaves and branches. This particular tree, to me, represents a resilience that I’d like to develop in the upcoming year; to be stronger and healthier physically, emotionally, spiritually and to always remember who I am. I hope that this will spill into my creative works as well.”
