What a great challenge this month! I think we all had as much fun with the creative process as we did making the final pieces. I can tell you from experience that covering an egg with polymer clay is no easy task which makes the final pieces even that much more amazing. Here are some hilarious stories & quotes from members about the process:

“I managed to survive the blowing out process but I got the first layer of clay on and cured, but ive got bubbles, big pimple like bubbles!!!!” Zoeowyn.etsy.com

“I have read the tutorial on how to blow out an egg. And much good it did me. Blew the first one up. Egg all over everywhere. Shell cracked.
Good job I’ve got chickens. Shall have to pop out and see if there’s another egg laid.” vickicockcroft.etsy.com

“Number of eggs I’ve broken so far on this project: 5″ beastlies.etsy.com

“This is really a challenge:) Well, I will try to do my best, but I cannot promise anything for sure, except some scrambled eggs :)” ZSBCreations.etsy.com

“I thought I would get started, so I blew out an egg and placed it in an egg carton on a paper towel on my kitchen counter to dry out. My husband comes in and sees it on the counter, huffs, closes the lid on the carton (crushing my egg) and throws it in the trash. Thank you very much. Back to the drawing board.” blockpartypress.etsy.com

“I blew out my very first ever egg. No problem at all. “Ha” I thought “don’t know what all the fuss is about!” Let it dry. Started covering it. “Ha” I thought “don’t know what all the fuss is about”. Got about 1/2 way down. My egg imploded!!!!!!!!” Now I know what all the fuss is about. And I should remember that Pride goeth before a fall (or an imploding egg!) pipsjewellery.etsy.com

And the bad puns were rampant ( I have left the names out to protect the innocent):

“I’m almost finished my entry…I’m egg-hausted !!!”

“Are you eggztremely egghausted?”

“Yes , that’s eggactly how I feel !!!”

“Are you eggs-agerating?”

Ha! That conversation was eggsceptional ( I couldn’t help myself!).  Well I hope you now understand how much work, dedication and cracked eggs went into this month’s Challenge! Let’s get onto the winners!!

In first Place we have an amazing egg , “An Artist Knows” by Marciapalmer.etsy.com. Marcia always impresses us with creative and thoughtful challenge entries and this one was no exception. Congratulations!

Well another fantastic monthly challenge is over. March’s animal challenge brought us some incredible items, from jewelry to figures to home decor items. Some took the challenge literally and created animals from the clay while others took facets of an animal or animals to interpret the theme. Some had deep meaning behind them and some were purely for fun. We also spanned the animal kingdom with sea life, birds, mammals and insects represented. The diversity of the items really displays the diversity of your guild. Great job everyone! Thanks so much to everyone who participated! Now on to the winners…. First Place went to ZudaGay.etsy.com for her Baby Manatee.

Baby Manatee

She says” I love manatees and have been wanting to make one for a while.” We sure are glad she did! Congratulations!!

A very close 2nd place went to a challenge favorite and former winner, Beetreebyme.etsy.com for her Animal Reflections Mirror

Animal Reflections

M.E.’s entry has an important message and reminds us to “Time to take a look in the mirror ! Take a moment each day to reflect on the Animal kingdom and the earth we all share.”

3rd Place went to Zoeowyn.etsy.com for her My Rock” Says The Octopus Art Bead.

My Rock Says the Octopus

Here’s how she describes her entry “Under sea animal life on a bead. Large octopus grabbing onto a rock shapped bead. There are some sea stars and urchins and little snall with him. Part of his rock is a *real* stone, I just dont know what kind. ” This piece has so much detail on such a small scale!
Finally, honorable mention went to Naamaza.etsy.com for her fun Beetle.

108A

Naamaza had this to say about her entry ” This beetle is made with an aluminum foil armature, polymer clay and beads. It is app. 15 cm long and 7 cm high (big ha?)”. If all beetles looked like this, I’m sure people would be less inclined to squish them!

Last but certainly not least, we had a voter winner too. Congratulations to Petronella from Kraplap.etsy.com. Please check out her shop as well. She has some truly amazing button creations that are not to be missed! Here’s what she won in case you missed it:

PCAGOE March 2008 Prize Pack: Flora and Fauna

Thanks again to all the participants and of course all the voters! Join us again next month for a new challenge and another chance to win some goodies!

For this month’s challenge we wanted to showcase a very popular polymer clay technique, Mokume Gane, that just about anyone can do. All participating members worked hard to create some amazing mokume gane pieces. This month there was a runaway winner and I’m not surprised, because her mokume gane creations have been amazing us since she joined the guild. The winner is Rebecca of RGCreations for her incredible Half Moon Pendant made with metallic silver, black and white clay using a layered and stamped mokume gane. Congratulations Rebecca! She will receive $20 as well as the premier issue of Make it Mine and the book, Polymer Pizazz, both courtesy of Polymer Clay Productions and Kalmbach Publishing Co.

Half Moon Pendant

Second Place went to Amy of ovenfriedbeads.etsy for her Earthmother Mokume GanePendant. Here is her description of the pendant and it’s inspiration: this pendant is a truly one-of-a-kind piece of art! Earthy reds, browns and greens mixed with cloudy whites are speckled with little stars, resembling (at least to me), the cosmos in motion. So Earthmother is not a picture of Earth. It is what made and continues to surround her. We’re not surprised that this pendant has already been sold!

Earthmother Mokume Gane Pendant

Third Place went to Divadea.etsy.com for her very cool Mokume gane frame and switch cover set .

PCAGOE November Challenge

And finally, honorable mention went to Janice of Naftali.etsy.com for her incredible Shattered Mokume beads.

Great work everyone! Let’s not forget our voter winner. Milliedogdesigns.etsy.com was randomly picked from all the voters to receive our prize pack worth over $150 and the premier issue of Make it Mine Magazine. Congratulations to all the winners!! We’ll see you again next month!! In the mean time, have a Happy Holiday season and we all hope Santa puts lots of polymer clay under your tree and in your stocking!!
